Register with UBC Shotokan

Registration

Registration is done through the UBC REC program.

Click here for UBC REC's online registration.

1. After clicking on the link above, the UBC REC registration screen appears.
2. Click the Register Online button.
3. Click on REGISTER tab at the top.
4. Click Advanced Search.
5. Enter the appropriate dates and the keyword shotokan.
6. Click on the applicable link, e.g. Shotokan Karate - UBC Students.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you have trouble with the online registration system, you can also register at the UBC REC front desk, but be aware that there can be a long line-up at the beginning of the semester. Don't wait until the last day of registration!

Registration after the official registration date can only be done in person at the SRC front desk (not online) and requires the instructor's permission. (You may need to contact the UBC REC Sport & Instructional Programs Coordinator; see contact information here. At the time of writing, the contact person is Linda Roseborough.)

Your first class

If you have just registered, please introduce yourself to and talk to the instructor (senior black belt) present for your first class. We are all friendly people and will be happy to answer any and all questions you may have.

Please take off your shoes before you enter the dojo. (Dojo means place of the Way and is how we refer to the place where we practice—even if other people call it the SRC Studio.) If you are wearing a watch or any jewellery, please take it off before the practice begins. You don't need to have a gi (practice uniform) to practice with us, but make sure to wear comfortable clothing that you can move in—no tight jeans!
